1/650 scale U.S.S. Excelsior NCC-2000

This was a commissioned build of the Helios Models and Lighting resin printed model kit as it appears in Star Trek: The Undiscovered Country. The model was constructed with custom scratch-built styrene and photoetch details to further the accuracy of the kit. Additional custom details include non-canon spotlights and docking ports on the port and starboard side of the secondary hull.

The showcase feature of this build is the hyper accurate paint job. The model was painted with custom cut vinyl frisket paint masks that are recreations of the original ILM used photoetch friskets that were utilized on Earth Spacedock, the Death Star, and of course the Excelsior. In conjunction with ILM-er Bill George who provided additional reference media, this is the most accurately painted scale replica of the Excelsior.

The model is powered with 12v components that are controlled by an Arduino and a Toshiba TBD62783APG High-Side Source Driver for PWM control. Code is custom written for the startup sequence. Control components are stored inside a custom Cozmic Scale Models display base.
